Biological Connection

The organ system that I chose to connect to my power was the Central Nervous System (CNS). The CNS had three parts: the cerebellum, cerebrum, and the spinal cord. These three sections work together to produce the connections that control your entire body. The part of the CNS that I looked the closest at was the Cerebrum; it has even more specific sections of itself that have their own functions. The temporal lobe, Occipital lobe, Parietal lobe, and the frontal lobe are each a part of the brain that work together to make the Cerebrum. Emotions are controlled by a system within the temporal lobe of the Cerebrum called the Limbic System. In the Limbic System, there are multiple parts that are working together to spit out emotions and maintain homeostasis through hormones and neurotransmitters. Within the limbic system, there are more specified sections in control of your response to certain situations, all having to do with the emotional aspect. The Hippocampus is focused on forming, storing, and processing information. The Thalamus makes fast links between multiple parts of the brain. The Amygdala functions to process a memory that stands out because of the emotional connection, then produces an unconscious response to stimuli in the environment. The Hypothalamus lies beneath the thalamus on each side of the cerebral hemisphere. It is a section of the brain responsible for the production of many of the body's essential hormones, chemical substances that help control different cells and organs. There are many more structures of the Limbic system that include the Fornix, Olfactory Bulb, Mammilary Body, and more, but my research and the connection in my story doesn't highlight their function.
From doing this, I have learned that my power comes from the emotional strength that I have had. This inclined me to make my two final drawings: the open heart and the brain. These two systems are a part of where my story comes from because of the biological aspect of emotion developing from the Central Nervous System and how we, as humans, have come to closely associate love and the heart.
