JUNIOR INTERNSHIP 2018

As a part of my school’s philosophy, we are required to do a one month internship in order to immerse ourselves in the professional world. We are gifted this opportunity in hopes to acquire work skills and “enlarging our sense of identity”. My internship is a one month, full-time immersion experience starting on the first week of May to the first week of June. The hours may be set by the site we intern at and should be a typical work day.

Below are my top three dream internship sites.

GOOGLE

Google Orange County Headquarters

One of my dream internships would be to intern with Google at any of its many headquarters. I am extremely interested in this site because of the succession of Google over its 19 years of life. I am amazed by the fact that the majority of the world uses Google as a search browser and how it managed to create so many apps and uses for the modern world. Google appears to have a lot of creativity and fun within its workspace which would make it feel like I didn’t have to be there for school, it wouldn’t feel like a job. It would moreso feel like a playground where I could be a creative contributor to the marketing or design aspect of the business. I believe that I would learn professionalism working with their partners and/or observing their interactions with them. I also think i would be encouraged to embrace my abnormalities and would make me a more confident person overall.

CANON INC.

Canon USA Headquarters

I am very interested in photography and canon products are all that I own and use. I looked into the company and found that the company philosophy was something that I’ve always let influence me. It stated: "All people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future." This gives me the assurance that I would be working somewhere where I would be getting the support that I needed. Canon Inc. already offers internships to college students and in these internships you first learn how to use the gear and get a feel for photography. I would be able to expand my exposure in photography here and learn from the onsite photographers they have. The interns are also in office where I would be able to get insight in networking across departments, business skills, and professional development and growth.

SPACEX

My entire life, I have been interested in the stars and traveling into outer space. SpaceX is one of the companies that has made recent headway towards traveling further and creating life on Mars. I would intern here in the communications department where I could develop an interest to the public with my writing and be one of the first to discover something greater than our world and share it to the public. I would work alongside some of the most innovative people around in hopes that this type of creative vision would rub off on me.

THOUGHTS BEFORE INTERNSHIP

The thing I am most looking forward to about junior internship is the thought of making an impact and helping someone do something that will be valuable. I hope to make the best impression on my mentor and create a relationship with someone on my own. This feels like an opportunity for me to see how I would do in the “real world” now, at seventeen years old and be able to take this into future internships that I will carry on throughout college and life in general.

I hope to apply my social skills and creativity in order to bring new light to something that my mentor might need input on.
