DRAFTING PROCESS

In past stories written, I had never done as much drafting as I did in this one. I began my story by  choosing three moments that impacted my life the most. At first, it was easy for me to pick the story that  I wanted to write because I felt that it was something that I wanted to talk about for a long time. I started by writing the story about my dad and the relationship we had. This was an extremely personal thing that I had only shared with a select few and not even he was completely aware that I felt this way about him. I spent a month working on this story and  by the time our third draft was due, I didn't feel as connected to the story as I wanted to. Two hours before it was time to turn in our story, I decided to completely write a new one. This story poured out of me and I hadn't pulled the thoughts that came out of this story from my mind to myself in the past.
Drafting my first story I was able to figure out what I needed to add and what I didn't. As I would reread my story and have multiple drafts I was able to see the change in my writing from the beginning to end. With each draft, my story would become more and more personal and it really allowed me to dig deeper in what I was feeling so that I could paint  a picture for the reader.
