Testing Day

This past Saturday, I took the SAT for the first time. In all honesty, I didn’t prepare much for this test other than the work we were doing for honors, which was an SAT reading and writing workbook. I found this book extremely helpful because it helped me learn rules for grammar that I had seen before, but was not sure about when or where to use them. Along with that, I had been working on multiple practice tests on Khanacademy. In these things however, I was mostly focused on the reading and writing section and not really the math. Even though I did do some work on Khanacademy to prepare for the math test, what helped me the most was my math teacher, Mr. B, telling our class all he knew about taking the SAT. He taught us multiple strategies which I used on the test, but ultimately, I felt like it was not enough. Sadly, I think that my weakest section is the math section because I saw a lot of problems where I could not figure out the answer in an efficient manner.

The things that I think did help me were getting enough sleep, eating breakfast and eating snacks throughout the breaks that the proctor would give us. I set my two alarms for the test, the day before, which helped because I usually forget to set alarms that aren't for school. Then, I had a light dinner and went to bed around nine so that I could sleep around ten. I got just the right amount of sleep, not too much and not too little, which meant that I was refreshed in the morning. With my brain ready to go and my body half nervous half excited, I ate a sandwich that my mom made me to distract me from an important test. Along with that, I brought my own snacks and my advisor, Mrs. Nuvia, brought us a goody-bag that I ate during the breaks. This helped me keep my hunger down and stay focused with a sound belly. Ultimately, the test was not as bad as I had thought it would be, and in the end I felt that I had checked off another thing for college.
